I’m on my 9th company from multi Million to as small as 5 people “big”.
I have used just about anything, and have designed software to “feed” ERP accounting software packages.
My advice for small to medium business:
XERO is great for automation and simplicity, where you can still connect with an accountant to access reports when it gets bigger.
It also automatically imports your bank deposits (synchronizes) with your bank and you can automate reconciliations.
The other service I ran paralel at some point and I found even more user friendly is Wave accounting, which last time I used it was totally free. (but had adverts)
