OT but not often we get interesting duck incubating stories but this one has a certain charm about it:
Waitrose or Tescos?
Aldi
Is this some mid cute duckling photos taunting?
We’ve needed a duck pics thread for a while
How many do you have this year?
Not bred any new ones because of the impending house move so down to 13 ducks and 1 drake. We were at 203 2 years ago which creates a lot of mess!
How many Waitrose eggs did you have to buy?
My understanding is that sexing Drakes and Cockerels or rather Cockerels that have the appearance of chickens (lady chickens) can be challenging, and consequently, the number of fertilised eggs available to buy to eat, is much higher that the egg industry would like to admit.
So cute 🤗
Sexing ducks is quite easy compared to chickens so that Waitrose chap in the article was talking shite.
By the time they are ready to lay the drakes will have a different sound ( drakes croak, only ducks quack) and most likely the drakes will be developing their ring feathers at the top of the tail feathers.
Chickens are much more difficult at point of lay.
These stories don’t stop.
Ducks could potentially be our savours https://www.virgin.com/entrepreneur/talk-rubber-duck-and-other-ways-solve-problems
