Hej

I have a lot of issues with RW Classic on MacOs Ventura. Preview has become very slow, and often it does not show anything at all. I am also getting some errors in preview some times. Also the stack “frames” on a stack page looks strange, text is cut of and have the wrong colour until clicked upon.
It is not only RW, I also experience other problems with Firefox being slow being slow. Overall I feel my computer has become slow. It is a Macbook Pro M1 Pro.
Maybe you should wait with updating until these things have gone away.

I’ve not yet updated to Ventura. But the felt slowness of your Computer could be because Spotlight is re-indexing your complete harddrive(s), which can take several hours…

I honestly updated with fear, but I was pleasantly surprised.
My macbook M1 pro with Ventura 13.0 seems to have taken a dose of adrenaline, it feels faster, more responsive.
I have RW Version 8.9.4 (20901) with Ventura it goes perfectly, no problem, indeed now the preview is faster.
I can say that so far I am satisfied.
I have also activated the stage manager, it’s comfortable.

My mac still feels slow. I hope it will be better soon. Maybe I have something running in the background i am unaware off.

Strangely, my Mac is better now, but I still have the issues with RWC on stacks pages where the frames is missing parts and the texts are not visible until clicked on. It happens mostly only in Foundation 6 projects. Source projects does not suffer from this problem… that in it self is a bit odd I think.

Platform also suffers from this ailment.
Some themes also have this problem.
UIKit does not suffer from this
Foundry I do not have so cannot tell.

I also had numerous crashes of RWC today, which rarely happened before.

Take a look at this odd fellow. Old Foundation 6 project. It is upside down and mirrored. When I click on it it reverses to normal.

It is for sure always slow for a few days after a big update.

But an M1 Pro – it really shouldn’t be that slow – nothing is really that slow on such a fast machine.

I think I would start by looking in your add-ons folder. Try first disabling everything that you’re not using. Maybe you have some older plug-ins that are not running smoothly anymore?

I am investigating all quirks (not just in Stacks, but in all of our plug-ins).

If you can help me see the issue – like, can you create the problem starting just from a blank project and brand new page?
Or is it only slow with a specific file?

If it’s a specific file – then I would try to find if there is one stack or group of stacks responsible for the slow-down.

To analyze the problem you can (on a copy of the project) delete portions of the page to see if any portion is largely responsible for the slow-down.

It may be that there are some things on the page that are causing issues only in Ventura.

that is… interesting.
do you happen to use a “turbo” stack? some of the stacks that improve speed do it by tricking the page into rendering everything to the video card.

however when the video card gets near it’s video buffer-size or ram-limits then i’ve seen strange things happen (although full mirror and upside down is not something i’ve seen before)

but it might be interesting to remove some Stacks to see if the problem improves – and if there are any particular stacks that seem to be triggering the behavior.

I had the same upside-down problem earlier this year. I had RW plus AI, Photoshop and Lightroom all open as I was switching between all of them on a project.
Although I’ve maxed my late 2015 iMac to 32Gb ram, it seemed to cope with all these memory hogs playing at the same time but shutting down Lightroom solved the RW upside-down problem. Guessing that constant switching caused a vram or ram issue?

I found RW8 (using it with Source) very slow when editing a site. Scrolling in edit mode is a pain. Preview is fast an smooth.

Hej My mac is back to normal now, RW is speedy in both preview and edit mode, but I still have problems with frames not being quite visible or “drawn” until I click on them. I am not sure if I got the latest stack update, maybe that will help with this problem. My version is Version 5.0.0b12 (6242) Also it does not crash so often anymore, I deleted some start-up things though.

You’re running the latest version of Stacks. I would wait 2 or 3 more days, since then the first bugifx-update of Stacks 5 will probably be released.

Hello, I had this to with the iframes not being visible - when I removed the hardware acceleration stack it was gone… or better all the frames where visible again…

I do not use any hardware acceleration stacks. Anyway, it is not a big deal. As soon as I click on the frames, they appear in their normal intended state.
