In the tutorial for GS3 there is no up to date explanation for the image options.
What is the behaviour of the different types of images?
As we now have site images and image+ thumbnail pro which aren’t in the tutorial.

Site images work exactly like normal stacks images.
The pro image stack is only for the pro, as it states. It’s like the image + thumb stack, just that the main full width image will not be restricted in size.

Thumbs are sharper for Image and Site Image but load slowly. Thumbs are soft for Image + thumb and Pro and load quicker.
Any suggestions to get crisp thumbs and quick load?
Use the ftp folder integration with the thumbs subfolder option, then you have complete control over full and thumb image sizes:
